Mexican Indigenous pressure group the 'Consejo indigena popular de Oaxaca Ricardo Flores Magon' (CIPO-RFM) hold an international gathering in the village of San Isidro Aloapam to highlight problems being faced by local people. The village was in dispute with a nearby town called San Miguel over logging the local forest. Villagers had been shot at by paramilitaries protecting the lumberjacks. Unlike San Isidro which is politically represented by CIPO-RFM, San Miguel is under the control of the rightwing PRI party. The gathering included a visit to the damaged forest and an international conference. The official title of the event was 'Encuentro por la defensa del bosque y la vida comunitaria'. Local people from the village of San Isidro Aloapam visit the scene of a serious confrontation with paramilitaries from nearby San Miguel.
